Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (s.02)

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is one of the best and funniest comedies running today. It’s strongest side (besides being full of life) is skilful representation of modern reality through the eyes of a person who is new to that reality herself, and who is also quite extraordinary. Second season of the show is in every respect just as great as the first one: the primary characters are amazing, and their respective lines of development demonstrate high level of integrity; overall development constantly produces interesting and often unexpected turns; regular references to popular culture, especially those about television shows, are exquisite and very interesting to discern; secondary characters can be strikingly powerful – of these I’d like to give a special mentioning to Deirdre Robespierre (beautiful masochist) played by Anna Camp, and Kimmy’s mother played by Lisa Kudrow (because – who else?), although pretty much every one of them is curious in this way or the other.

One of the most crucial signs of a show’s vitality is small things that fill spaces between the storylines; Tina Fey’s projects were always consistent with such detailing, and Kimmy is no different from 30 Rock in that respect. Wonderful songs by Art Smelly, continual games with words, deinty observations – these things enrich the narration immensly; their significance is hard to overestimate.

I haven’t notices any signes of a possible downfall; Titus was a bit too much for me, I would’ve preferred him is smaller doses, but hey, that’s just me. All in all, it’s extremely yummy, and I can’t wait to see the next season, especially with all those highly promising cliffhangers.
